Adhkar After Prayer

11 adhkar

0 of 11 done

The minutes straight after an obligatory prayer carry a reward that is hard to find elsewhere. The Prophet ﷺ called them 'trailing deeds whose sayer is never disappointed, after every prescribed prayer'.

They are ordered here as they are actually said: istighfar three times and 'O Allah, You are Peace', then the declaration of tawhid, then Ayat al-Kursi and the protective surahs, then 33 tasbih, 33 tahmid, 33 takbir, completing the hundred with the tahlil.

These are said after the five obligatory prayers, not after voluntary ones.

Astaghfirullah

I seek the forgiveness of Allah.

Allahumma anta-s-salam, wa minka-s-salam, tabarakta ya Dha-l-Jalali wa-l-Ikram.

O Allah, You are Peace and from You is peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.

There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the might of the mighty cannot avail against You.

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa-l-Hayyu-l-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fi-s-samawati wa ma fi-l-ard. Man dha-lladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnih. Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Virtue: Whoever recites it after every prayer, nothing keeps him from Paradise but death.

Common questions

What is said immediately after the prayer?

'Astaghfirullah' three times, then 'Allahumma anta as-salam…', then Ayat al-Kursi and the protective surahs, then 33 SubhanAllah, 33 Alhamdulillah, 33 Allahu Akbar, completing one hundred with 'La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah…'.

Are these said after voluntary prayers too?

The narrations tie them to the five obligatory prayers. Remembering Allah after a voluntary prayer is good, but it is not this specific sunnah.
