Tasbih & Dhikr

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ

Subhanallah

Glory be to Allah.

Virtue: Light on the tongue, heavy on the scale, beloved to the Most Merciful.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Alhamdulillah

All praise is for Allah.

Virtue: It fills the scale.

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ

La ilaha illa-llah

There is no deity but Allah.

Virtue: The best of remembrance.

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

Allahu akbar

Allah is the Greatest.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ

Astaghfirullah

I seek the forgiveness of Allah.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ would seek forgiveness a hundred times a day.

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Virtue: A treasure from the treasures of Paradise.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

Allahumma salli wa sallim 'ala nabiyyina Muhammad

O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.

Virtue: For each blessing you send on him, Allah sends ten upon you.

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal-wakil

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu mina-z-zalimin

There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.

Virtue: The supplication of Yunus — no distressed person says it but Allah relieves him.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Bismi-llahi-lladhi la yadurru ma'a-smihi shay'un fi-l-ardi wa la fi-s-sama', wa Huwa-s-Sami'u-l-'Alim.

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm in the earth or the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ نَبِيًّا

Radeetu billahi Rabba, wa bil-islami dina, wa bi-Muhammadin ﷺ nabiyya.

I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet.

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ، وَشُكْرِكَ، وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika, wa shukrika, wa husni 'ibadatik.

O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You well.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ

Allahumma inni as'aluka-l-'afwa wal-'afiyah

O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقًا طَيِّبًا

Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqan tayyiba

O Allah, I ask You for good, wholesome provision.

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidni 'ilma

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika mina-l-hammi wal-hazan

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief.

اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُرْ عَوْرَاتِي، وَآمِنْ رَوْعَاتِي

Allahumma-stur 'awrati, wa amin raw'ati

O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears.

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika-llahumma amutu wa ahya

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Al-hamdu lillahi-lladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhi-n-nushur.

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha illa-llah, wallahu akbar

Glory be to Allah; all praise is for Allah; there is no deity but Allah; and Allah is the Greatest.

Virtue: The four phrases most beloved to Allah.
