About this dhikr

This is a sunnah in its own right, unrelated to the hundred times a day. Thawban reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer he would seek forgiveness three times, and then say: *O Allah, You are Peace and from You is peace; blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honour* (Muslim 591).

Its position carries a meaning and not merely an order. The first words spoken after leaving the prayer are an apology for whatever heedlessness or shortcoming occurred inside it. The servant comes out of an act of worship and begins by excusing his failure in it, before asking for anything at all.

It is three, not a hundred — and the wording is the unrestricted «astaghfirullah», followed immediately by *O Allah, You are Peace*. The narration gives the two together.

When is it said?

These are said immediately after the salam of every obligatory prayer, before you stand up from where you prayed. The prayer itself is the reminder, so nothing else has to remind you.
