Duas for Ramadan

People search for a Ramadan dua and find long texts for each night, one for welcoming the month and one for bidding it farewell. In truth, Ramadan was not given a supplication with a fixed wording — it was given something greater: times in which supplication is not turned back.

The fasting person has a supplication that is not rejected until he breaks his fast; the month contains a night better than a thousand months; and every night carries the divine descent in its final third. The question is not 'what do I say?' but 'when do I say it?'

As for 'O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban and let us reach Ramadan', its hadith is weak — set out in Popular duas that are not authentic.

The dua of Laylat al-Qadr

Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni.

O Allah, You are Pardoning and love to pardon, so pardon me.

After breaking the fast

Dhahaba az-zama'u wabtallatil-'uruqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha'a Allah.

The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.

And through the month, with whatever you need

Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka antas-Sami'ul-'Alim.

Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.

Plain text (no diacritics)

Common questions

Is there a specific dua for welcoming Ramadan?

No fixed wording is established. The famous narration is graded weak. Supplicate with its meaning in your own words.

Is there a dua for each day of Ramadan?

No. The circulated 'dua for the first day, the second day…' has no basis in the books of Sunnah.
