Before eating
Bismillah.
In the name of Allah.
Plain text (no diacritics)
Food is a blessing received two or three times a day, and the blessings most easily taken for granted are the ones that repeat until they feel ordinary. So a remembrance was placed at its beginning and another at its end — not to burden the meal, but to keep it in the heart that this is a gift.
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah is pleased with a servant who eats a morsel and praises Him for it, or drinks a draught and praises Him for it' (Muslim). That Allah is pleased with you because of a mouthful you thanked Him for is itself reason enough.
Bismillah.
In the name of Allah.
Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirah.
In the name of Allah, at its beginning and at its end.
Praise be to Allah, who fed me this and provided it for me with no strength or power of my own.
Allahumma barik lahum fima razaqtahum, waghfir lahum warhamhum.
O Allah, bless them in what You have provided them, and forgive them and have mercy on them.
