Dua on Friday

There is an hour on Friday in which no Muslim servant asks Allah for something without being given it. The hadith is agreed upon, and the hour is deliberately left unspecified — so that the servant keeps asking all day.

Two views are strongest: that it lies between the imam sitting on the pulpit and the end of the prayer, and that it is the last hour after Asr until sunset. Reconcile them by supplicating in both.

There is no fixed, transmitted wording peculiar to Friday. The long texts circulated as 'the Friday dua' are largely invented. Ask for what you need, and send abundant salawat on the Prophet ﷺ, for they are presented to him.

Salawat on the Prophet ﷺ

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Common questions

Is there a specific dua for Friday?

No fixed wording is transmitted for Friday specifically. What is transmitted is the virtue of supplicating on that day, the hour of response, and abundant salawat on the Prophet ﷺ.
